Virginia – A Virginia father recently made a life-changing decision after his 6-year-old son jokingly imitated one of his vaping habits, highlighting how much children notice their parents’ behaviors.
The Bathroom Moment That Changed Everything
After finishing a shower and brushing his teeth, the boy pretended the steam from his toothbrush was vapor from a vape, saying:
“Look Dad, I’m just like you!”
The simple joke made the father reflect on his smoking and vaping habits.
“I thought I was slick, careful, discreet. I thought he didn’t know,” he said. “God, I’m pretty upset with myself… I want to be healthier for myself, for him, and for our family’s future.”
Moved by the moment, he immediately threw away his cigarettes and vaping device.
Taking the First Step
The father shared his story on Reddit’s r/mildlyinfuriating, including a photo of the discarded cigarettes and vape. Support flooded in from users:
- “Congratulations on Day 1. Hope to see an update to reaching Day 30,” one commenter wrote.
- Others offered advice to prevent relapse, suggesting actions like completely destroying cigarettes or disassembling vaping devices to remove temptation.
“Do yourself a favor and crush those cigs… the first time I tried to quit smoking I threw half a pack away. Like 6 hours in I went digging through the trash for those last cigs,” one user shared.
