Wilmington Weekend Weather Forecast: Sunny Start, Storms Expected Sunday Night

WILMINGTON, N.C. — Residents across the North Carolina coast are waking up to a crisp and clear Halloween morning, with light inland winds and temperatures in the 40s, before a mild, sunny afternoon settles in. Conditions remain ideal for trick-or-treating, outdoor events, and coastal activities through the weekend — until a round of showers and possible thunderstorms moves in late Sunday.

Calm and Sunny Start to the Weekend

The National Weather Service in Wilmington reports that a pocket of dry, stable air will dominate the region through Saturday evening, keeping skies mostly sunny and temperatures seasonably mild.

Daytime highs are expected to reach around 66°F on Thursday and near 68°F on Saturday, with overnight lows dipping into the low 40s inland.

“Residents planning yard work, fall festivals, or coastal travel will enjoy nearly perfect weather through early Saturday evening,” meteorologists said.

Sunday Brings a Change in Conditions

A weak frontal boundary moving in from the west will bring the first pattern shift of the weekend. Forecasters say scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms could develop Sunday evening into early Monday, with rainfall totals between a quarter and half an inch.

While severe weather isn’t expected, forecasters warn that lightning and brief gusty winds may impact coastal highways including U.S. 17 and I-40 east of Burgaw.

Cooler, Drier Start to Next Week

By Monday afternoon, the front clears the coast, allowing cooler, drier air to return. Temperatures early next week are expected to hover near 68°F, setting the stage for a pleasant and sunny start to November.

With Daylight Saving Time ending at 2 a.m. Sunday, residents can look forward to an extra hour of rest before cooler autumn air settles in once again.
