Wisconsin Man Struck and Killed by California Driver on Manitowoc’s Maritime Drive

MANITOWOC, Wisconsin – On Saturday night, a 78-year-old southern Wisconsin man was hit by an SUV while crossing Manitowoc’s Maritime Drive; he died later at a nearby hospital, according to cops.

According to the Manitowoc Police Department, first responders were dispatched to the intersection of Maritime Drive and Huron Street shortly before 9:30 p.m. on September 14 to investigate complaints that a vehicle had struck a person.

According to a Manitowoc Police Department announcement, witnesses stated that the man, later identified as a 78-year-old Madison resident, was crossing westbound on Maritime Drive when he was hit by a southbound SUV.

The 78-year-old was transferred to a nearby hospital and eventually died as a result of his injuries. The driver of the SUV, later identified as a 78-year-old California man, was not harmed, according to reports.

The Wisconsin State Patrol is conducting an accident reconstruction as part of the ongoing investigation.
