Wisconsin Woman Charged for Engaging in Inappropriate Relationship with Inmate

PORTAGE, Wis. – A 29-year-old woman was arrested at Columbia Correctional Institution for reportedly having an inappropriate relationship with a prisoner while she was working there.

The institution told the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office about reports of an employee having an illegal sexual relationship with an inmate and delivering items from outside the jail on October 17, 2024. The office began an investigation.

Gabrielle Gavinski, from Endeavor, was arrested and is now being held on multiple felony charges, including second-degree sexual assault by correctional staff, giving illegal items to an inmate, and making and providing THC.

Gavinski went to court for the first time on Oct. 21. She did so via video and was given a $25,000 signing bond. She has a pre-trial hearing set for November 18.

The investigation is still going on, and more charges might be brought.
