CHARLOTTE: The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is looking into a car accident that killed someone in south Charlotte.
The accident took place in the 6600 block of South Blvd. at 1:16 a.m. on Sunday.
When the police arrived, they saw a Toyota Scion on fire in the middle of the road. Two young people who were in the car were found outside hurt. The patients were taken to Atrium Health Main by medical staff.
Celeo Avalid Chirino, 20, was driving the Toyota and was declared dead at the scene of the accident.
Detectives from the Major Crash Unit and the DWI Task Force went to the hospital and the spot of the accident to do their work. The Toyota was going south when it lost its balance and hit a raised median, according to the preliminary probe. The crash did a lot of damage to the car’s underbelly and set it on fire.
Speeding too fast and being drunk are thought to have played a role. At the time of the crash, everyone in the car was wearing a seatbelt.
There are still people involved in the probe. Detective Kupfer can be reached at 704-432-2169, Ext. 1, by anyone who saw the crash or knows anything about it. Crime Stoppers can be reached at (704) 334-1600 or http://charlottecrimestoppers.com/ and tips can also be left without being identified.
