43-Year-Old Man Arrested for Felony Murder After Fight in Wausau

WAUSAU, Wis. – Police in Wausau say they have arrested a man for their claimed part in a fight on Sunday night that killed another man.

A press statement from the Wausau Police Department says that at 6:20 p.m., officers were called to the 400 block of Washington Street to investigate a report of a fight between two men.

Thomas Lee Schroeder, 43, is one of the guys who police say hit the other man and made him fall into the road.

When police arrived, they saw the fight victim lying unconscious on the road with what looked like a head injury.

The person who was hurt, 53-year-old Chad Lattimer from Wausau, was then taken to the hospital but died Monday night from his injuries.

Also from Wausau, Schroeder was said to have left the scene before police came. He was last seen walking northeast on foot.

He was walking back to the crime scene on the 400 block of North 4th Street at 6:32 p.m. when police say they caught him.

He was arrested and taken to the Marathon County Jail, where he is being held on the following charges, after a “brief struggle.”

It was said that Schroeder and the victim knew each other. Schroeder is due in court on Tuesday, August 20 at 2:00 p.m.
