Race Day Live (Coosa County, AL) – A tragic incident occurred in Alabama when a woman lost her life and two others were injured after their vehicle collided with a horse that was on the road shortly before midnight this week.
Janice W. Bullard passed away following a collision involving the vehicle she was in and an animal on January 14 at approximately 11:40 p.m. local time on U.S. 231, about eight miles south of Rockford, as reported by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA).
Authorities reported that after colliding with the horse on the roadway in Coosa County, the vehicle swerved and impacted a large rock.
ALEA reported that Bullard, 63, was pronounced dead at the scene after being involved in a car incident. He was reportedly not wearing a seat belt in his 2015 Chrysler 200.
Angela M. Lackey, 47, who was driving the vehicle, along with her passenger, Nina S. Lackey, 67, were both taken to the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital due to injuries sustained.
A collision occurred close to the 181-mile marker on U.S. 231, a highway that stretches over 900 miles from Indiana to Florida.
“Nothing further is available as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate,” the ALEA said.
A recent incident in Alabama follows a tragic event that occurred four months prior, where a man lost his life due to a collision between a horse and his vehicle while he was driving in Norco, Calif., on September 22.
Authorities reported that firefighters were dispatched to a vehicle accident involving a horse on Interstate 15 shortly after 2 a.m. local time, ultimately confirming the fatalities of both the victim and the horse.
Authorities reported that the individual behind the wheel was taken by ground ambulance with minor injuries.
According to The San Bernardino Sun, the horse escaped when the vehicle pulling its trailer collided with a guardrail. A 25-year-old man was identified as the victim, with reports indicating that the animal crashed through the windshield of the gray Honda Accord he occupied.
