RDL – Head-on Collision in Sampson County Results in Two Deaths and Serious Injuries to Child and Adult
A head-on collision that occurred in Sampson County on Tuesday morning resulted in the deaths of two individuals and the hospitalization of two others, one of whom was a child of three years old.
Troopers from the State Highway Patrol responded to a collision on North Carolina Highway 55 (Harnett-Dunn Highway) close to Oak Grove Church Road around 7:04 in the morning. When Sky 5 flew over the area, it was possible to observe two cars that appeared to have been involved in a collision that was directed toward each other.
A black Honda Accord from 2017 was heading east on North Carolina State Highway 55 when it crossed the centerline and collided with a white Kia Sorento from 2013 traveling west on the same highway.
Because the front ends of both vehicles are completely crushed, it is clear that the two vehicles have sustained significant damage. In the white sedan, emergency personnel were observed removing a deceased person from the vehicle. When the medical examiner arrived at the scene at approximately 8:30 in the morning, he or she was observed removing two bodies.
Eric Scott Little, 30, from Coats, was driving the Honda Accord and was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident. Lauren Brittany Knuckles, 31, from Dudley, was driving the Kia Sorento and was wearing her seat belt.
Unfortunately, both drivers had already passed away by the time emergency personnel arrived at the scene of the accident.
When the accident occurred, a young girl of three years old who was riding in the Kia Sorento was safely confined in the appropriate car seat. She was transported to WakeMed by helicopter after the accident.
On Tuesday morning, there were two helicopters present at the scene. One of the helicopters took off after the child, who was three years old, was placed into it with the use of a stretcher, while the other chopper stayed at the scene.
At the time of the collision, Ashley Morgan Walker, 30, from Coats, was a passenger in the Honda Accord. She was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision, and she was taken to WakeMed with significant injuries.
