Race Day Live (Houston, TX) – A manhunt in Houston concluded on Wednesday evening when law enforcement fatally shot the individual accused of killing a deputy during a warrant service.
Authorities in Houston reported that 56-year-old Robert Lee Davis, who is also referred to as Christopher Davis, is being sought in relation to the death of the deputy.
“A short time ago, the suspect was shot by law enforcement officers behind the businesses near the original shooting scene here on Stella Link,” police said in a post on X. “The suspect is deceased.”
Earlier today, Houston Mayor John Whitmire and Houston Police Chief J. Noe Diaz reported the tragic death of Brazoria County Sheriff’s Deputy Jesus Jesse Vargas, who was fatally shot in the head while executing a warrant on a repeat offender.

This afternoon, we mourn the loss of a local hero, Deputy Sheriff Vargas from the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office,” Whitmire stated.
The shooting occurred in the parking lot of a Dollar General store around 11:30 a.m.
While executing a warrant in the parking lot, Vargas and his partner approached the suspect’s vehicle, at which point the individual allegedly fired shots and escaped the area.
At the time of the shooting, Vargas was serving as a member of the U.S. Marshal’s Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force, as reported by authorities.

Authorities reported that Vargas sustained a gunshot wound to the head. Vargas was transported to Ben Taub Hospital, where he was declared deceased.
Authorities reported that Vargas, who served for 17 years, is survived by his wife and three children. Constable Alan Rosen from Harris County shared on X that his team is assisting in locating the suspect.
