Race Day Live (Indianapolis, IN) – A man shot outside a coffee shop during attempted carjackings on Wednesday morning has died, according to Indianapolis police.
The Marion County Coroner’s Office identified the suspect as Trevor Marrero, 23, on Thursday.
Just before 5:45 a.m. on Wednesday, police were summoned to the Starbucks at 5710 W. 86th St. That’s near the Traders Point shopping center. Officers arrived to find Marrero shot in the parking lot. He was sent to a hospital in critical condition and later died.
According to IMPD, both carjacking victims were unharmed and cooperated with the police investigation.
According to the announcement, the initial carjacking used a pistol. Investigators from IMPD’s homicide office spoke with the first carjacking victim, who was subsequently released after consulting with the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.
Officer Tommy Thompson, an IMPD spokesman, stated at the morning crime scene, “It does not appear that there was anything nefarious or going on. Robbery is terrifying and distressing for those who experience it. For an individual with what appears to be preliminary information, this armed citizen was forced to take a life-altering action by firing a weapon to protect themselves.”
The announcement on Wednesday afternoon stated, “It is believed that two armed suspects attempted to carjack the second victim at a nearby business, and the victim was able to depart the scene safely in their vehicle and phone 911. Moments later, it is thought that the two armed suspects attempted to carjack the initial dispatched carjacking victim, with one of the suspects being shot in the parking lot. The second suspect fled the scene on foot before officers arrived.”

Reyna Revelle of News 8 went to the Traders Point area on Wednesday and spoke with a worker there following the incident. Woody Safforld stated, “I was astonished when they told me. Like, what? Did somebody be shot just over this way? Nothing is happening over here! There are simply a large number of workers. “Amazon delivery trucks and such.”
Another Traders Point employee, Dawn Bryant, told Revelle, “That’s a scary thing to happen, you know? Someone is putting money ahead of your life, and it’s insane! We must be constantly vigilant and mindful of our surroundings since we never know what will happen these days.”
“Violence is happening everywhere; you just gotta try to best prepare yourself for it,” she said.
