Race Day Live (Charlotte, NC) – Two persons were killed and two others injured in an early-morning motorbike crash in east Charlotte, according to Medic.

Around 1:40 a.m. on Sunday, police went to a crash in the 7100 block of East W.T. Harris Blvd. When they arrived, they discovered a 2012 Ford Fusion and a 2017 Yamaha FZ-09 motorcycle with extensive damage in the intersection.

The motorcycle’s driver, Anthony Ayala, 25, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to officials.

Two Ford passengers, a 20-year-old male and a 10-year-old child, were sent to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Roberto Emanuel Ortiz, 14, was rushed to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died.

According to investigators, Ayala was traveling south on East W.T. Harris Blvd. at an “extremely high rate of speed” when he collided with a Ford heading north and attempting to turn left onto Hickory Grove Road.

According to CMPD, Ayala was wearing a helmet and everyone in the Ford was wearing seatbelts at the time of the incident. Speed and impairment are suspected factors in Ayala’s crash, but not for the driver of the Ford Fusion, a lady who was not harmed.

This is a continuing investigation.
