Race Day Live (San Bernardino, CA) – Officials revealed on Monday that two men were taken into custody in San Bernardino County, alongside the detention of 33 additional individuals. The operation also resulted in the confiscation of over 200 fighting roosters, a significant amount of U.S. currency, and numerous firearms.
Deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call regarding an unlawful operation taking place at a location on Avenue E in Yucaipa.
Authorities reported that around 50 vehicles were present on the property when deputies arrived, with numerous occupants trying to escape the scene.
A 33-year-old Riverside man, identified as Jose Adame, reportedly sped towards a patrol unit, just avoiding a deputy. This prompted the deputy to start a chase after Adame did not stop when signaled.
Adame ultimately halted his vehicle close to 16th Street and Yucaipa Boulevard, leading to the arrest of him and three passengers.
Deputies discovered six live roosters in the rear cargo area of the vehicle, which was subsequently impounded, as stated in the release.

A further 33 individuals recognized as onlookers of the unlawful activity were apprehended at the location where officials discovered 250 roosters, a fighting arena complete with a scoreboard, and steel talons, usually affixed to the birds’ claws during the illicit contests.
A suspect, identified as 35-year-old Carlos Romero from Perris, was found by an SBSD aerial unit hiding in his truck, which contained seven live roosters inside boxes. A 35-year-old individual in custody was discovered with a significant amount of U.S. cash and a Ruger semi-automatic handgun concealed in his truck.
The Rural Task Force from SBSD arrived at the location to carry out a search warrant on the premises.
“Additional steel talons were located and approximately 24 firearms were seized from a large safe,” officials said.
Animal control personnel discovered approximately 17 deceased roosters, and eight living roosters, and tagged an additional 61 boxes containing roosters. Meanwhile, inspectors from Yucaipa Code Enforcement marked several structures, including a trailer on the site, as unfit for use.
Both individuals were taken into custody at the Central Detention Facility, with Adame confronting charges related to assault with a deadly weapon, failure to yield, and animal cruelty. Romero is being charged with mistreatment of animals.
Officials have not disclosed whether the spectators taken into custody during the event were issued citations and subsequently released.
