Race Day Live (Miami, FL) – A Florida teenager is recovering after a tragic car accident that claimed her father’s life while they were coming back from her birthday celebration.
A collision took place at approximately 5:30 p.m. local time on Friday, Jan. 17, in the vicinity of County Road 475 and State Road 44 in Sumter County, as reported by the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).
A sports utility vehicle ran a stop sign at the intersection, leading a Nissan Altima to swerve left into the eastbound lanes and crash into a Chevrolet pickup truck heading in the opposite direction, according to police reports. Following the collision, both vehicles ignited in flames.
The 39-year-old male driver of the Chevrolet tragically passed away at the hospital due to injuries sustained in the crash. According to NBC affiliate WESH, the individual has been identified as Joel Law from Oxford.

A teenager named Bryleigh Law has been recognized, having been out with her father following the celebration of her 16th birthday, according to WESH.
“It was unfathomable,” said Bryleigh’s mother, Whitney Law.
Whitney shared with WESH that her daughter suffered a “head wound” in the accident and “has no recollection of the incident whatsoever.”
“She asks where her dad is, and so I have to go through and explain everything again,” the mom explained. “I haven’t really processed everything yet.”
The Lake Saddle Club, a place of cherished memories for Bryleigh, is rallying together in the aftermath of the crash. On February 1, the club plans to host fundraisers and special events in honor of Bryleigh, as shared in their Facebook group updates.
