In the United States, over seven million people are waiting for another Social Security payment ahead of time. This month, the U.S. Social Security Administration will again provide early payments to Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients of up to approximately $1,000.
The first of each month is typically when SSI check recipients receive their money, but if a month starts on a weekend or holiday, the payment date is advanced to the next working day.
This is the date when SSI beneficiaries will receive the next Social Security payment
Because the first day of March 2025 falls on a Saturday, the nearly 7.5 million Americans enrolled in the SSI program will receive their February 28 check earlier than expected according to the Social Security payment schedule. This is the third consecutive month that SSI benefits will be paid early. Because New Year’s Day is a holiday and the first day of the following month falls on a Saturday, the January and February checks were also mailed on the last day of the previous month. Keep in mind that the regular SSI payment schedule will be reinstated by the SSA on Tuesday, April 1st.
Americans with poor incomes and resources who are over 65 or who are blind or disabled are the target of the SSI program. The SSI program is needs-based, in contrast to other benefit programs that rely on a recipient’s past contributions to the Social Security fund. According to the SSA’s program fact sheet, SSI is funded by general tax income rather than Social Security levies. To be eligible for SSI, you do not have to have worked or paid Social Security taxes.
How much money will SSI recipients receive in their next Social Security check?
The maximum monthly SSI amount that an eligible individual can get has increased to $967 after the SSA implemented the cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for 2025. The maximum monthly payment for an eligible essential individual is now $484, while eligible couples now receive enhanced joint payments of $1,450. By December 2024, the 7.5 million Americans who received SSI benefits made up less than 10% of the country’s approximately 76 million Social Security beneficiaries.

Retired workers, disabled workers, and surviving family members of workers are the target of the SSA’s other main Social Security programs. These Americans’ benefits do vary according to the amount of Social Security taxes they or a deceased family member have paid. Moreover, every year the Social Security Administration adds the cost of living adjustment (COLA) so beneficiaries can have enough money to keep pace with inflation; recipients should always keep informed about the new rises. Considering the new 2.5% COLA increase for this year, these will be the new payment amounts available for SSI recipients:
- $967 monthly paycheck: for SSI recipients who applied for the financial program as individuals
- $1,450 monthly paycheck: for SSI recipients who applied for the financial program as couples
- $484 extra payment: for individuals or couples who meet the essential person (EP) conditions from the SSI program
