Race Day Live The Kemper County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the disappearance of Steven Lee Knight, a man from North Carolina.

His car was found abandoned in Mississippi, but there is no sign of him. Authorities are searching for answers.

On Friday, February 7th, at around 10:17 AM, conservation officers from the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks reported a possible trespasser near a wooded area close to Old Highway 45 in Scooba, Kemper County.

When officers arrived, they found a car with North Carolina license plates (THF5471). The vehicle belonged to Steven Lee Knight, who had been reported missing from Maggie Valley, NC.

Inside the car, officers discovered camouflage clothing, firearms, food, and other personal items. However, there were no signs of a struggle or any foul play.

The Kemper County Sheriff’s Special Response Team (SRT) and the MDWFP Special Response Team joined the search.

They covered a 150-acre area using drones and conducted a detailed search, but Knight was nowhere to be found.

They also brought in a specialized Search and Recovery K-9 Unit trained to track long-term missing persons.

Sheriff James Moore thanked the MDWFP team for their support and confirmed that the investigation would continue.

On Saturday, February 8th, a new lead emerged. A man named Joshua Pickering from Waynesville, NC, reached out to the Kemper County Sheriff’s Office.

Pickering, who went to school with Knight, reported seeing him a few days earlier at Ace Hardware on Dellwood Road in Waynesville, NC.

A detective confirmed Pilkering’s claim and noted that the store was only a few miles from the sheriff’s office in Haywood County.

The investigation is ongoing, with the Kemper County Sheriff’s Office working closely with authorities in North Carolina to track down Knight. Sheriff Moore assured the public that every effort was being made to find him.
