In a dominating performance, the Colorado Avalanche defeated the Calgary Flames 6-2 on Tuesday night in Alberta. Mikko Rantanen was the star of the show, scoring two goals and providing two assists, extending his point streak to a career-high 10 games.
Valeri Nichushkin also had a standout game, contributing a goal and two assists, while Nathan MacKinnon and Josh Manson found the back of the net as well. Casey Mittelstadt scored his first goal for Colorado since being acquired at the trade deadline.
MacKinnon’s point streak extended to 13 games, and he leads the NHL with 113 points, surpassing his previous career high. The Avalanche are now tied with the Winnipeg Jets for second place in the Central Division, just two points behind the Dallas Stars.
Despite a goal from Daniil Miromanov and another from Walker Duehr, the Flames suffered their third consecutive loss. Rookie goalie Justus Annunen made 25 saves for the Avalanche, while Dan Vladar struggled in goal for the Flames, giving up six goals on 35 shots.
The Avalanche’s victory was fueled by a three-goal flurry in the second period, with goals from Manson, MacKinnon, and Nichushkin. Mittelstadt and Rantanen added goals late in the period to seal the win.
