According to a news statement from police, a 30-year-old man was shot and killed in Arlington on Tuesday night. The suspect said he tried to help the man who was strangling a woman.

Police say the person who is accused of shooting said he stepped in to protect himself and stop the man from strangling the woman.

Police said in a release that they were sent to the 2900 block of Forest Hallow Lane around 11 p.m. because of a report of a shooting going on at an apartment complex. A woman said that one of her cousins shot the father of her child. The person who is thought to have shot the person stayed at the crime scene until police came.

As the police looked into the shooting, they learned that the man who was killed and the woman who the suspect shooter said was being choked had a history of domestic abuse.

Police say the guy who was shot died at the hospital where he was taken. Even though no one has been arrested yet, the case is still being looked into and will be sent to the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office for more review.

Cameron McGowan was named as the person who was killed by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office. He died from being shot in the chest.
