Summerville, South Carolina — A $5,000 prize has been posted for anyone with information on the deaths of more than 12 animals on Drop Off Drive in Summerville.
Pet Helpers, a non-profit dedicated to the welfare and safety of animals, has established a prize for information leading to the arrest and conviction of individuals responsible for the killings.
According to the group, the deceased animals were 12 cats and 3 possums from a monitored cat colony cared for by members of the Lowcountry TNR and Feral Cat Network.
“This is a terrible and terrifying scenario. The cruelty done on these precious animals is unfathomable,” said Melissa Susko, Executive Director of Pet Helpers, in a prepared statement. “These cats were cared for, cherished, and looked after by volunteers who had dedicated their time to assisting them. We are determined to pursue justice for these creatures and will do everything in our power to hold those guilty accountable.”
The animals were discovered strewn over the woodland region where they lived, devastating the members of the group who had tried to assure their safety, Pet Helpers reported in a press release.
Local law enforcement is currently investigating the event, and TNR members are patrolling the area to trap any remaining animals and safeguard them from further damage.
As of Sunday morning, seven more felines had been discovered and caught.
“Our thoughts are with the caregivers of this colony, and we hope that no more animals are hurt. “We urge anyone with information to come forward so that those responsible are held accountable,” stated Susko.
