Teen in Stolen Car Injures Mother and Daughter During High-Speed Police Chase in Oklahoma

Oklahoma police say a 17-year-old boy in a stolen car hit a mom and her 23-year-old daughter who were driving on the highway while being chased across multiple counties.

The Rogers County Sheriff’s Office and KOTV say the teen stole three cars in 24 hours and said he would “take a life” to steal a third car.

Deputies said the fast-paced chase began in Craig County on October 20 and went into Roger’s County. Officials said they finally found the car wrecked in a ditch.

After that, someone called 911 to say that their truck had been broken into and a gun was inside, officers said. Police finally caught the teen driving the stolen truck fast down a country road.

When officers threw stop sticks, the teen tried to avoid them at first, but later, when they threw the sticks again, they punctured three tires.

Deputies say the 17-year-old drove over train tracks with flat tires and hit a car with a mother and daughter inside. A news statement and her obituary say that 23-year-old veteran Logan Harrell died at the scene of the crime.

Police said her mother was hurt and taken to the hospital.

Her death notice says that Harrell served in the army from 2019 to 2023 and spent six months in Kuwait. She also cheered at Rogers State College and studied to be a first-grade teacher.

The notice for her death said that Logan liked spending time with her family, shopping, wearing her Crocs, and training and helping other cheerleaders in the area.

As of Oct. 25, court records show that the teen accused of killing her was charged with murder, endangering others while trying to elude a police officer, larceny of an automobile, and other crimes.

There was no information about the teen’s lawyer. McClatchy News is not naming the subject because he is too young to do so.

Deputies told KOTV that they had been after the kid in three states and that he or she was on a crime spree from Missouri to California.

“He finished breaking into a house near Republic, Missouri, where he planned to kill the owner, who used to be his mentor,” Sheriff Scott Walton told KOTV.

The teen is set to go to court on October 31.
