A Man From Montana Who Was Hurt in a Motorcycle Accident on a Mountain Road Lives for Five Days on Water From a Creek

BOISE, Idaho — Authorities say that a biker from Montana who went missing five days after crashing on an Idaho mountain highway drank creek water until he was found.

Family friend Greg Common told Boise TV station KTVB that Zachary Demoss, 24, “was tough enough to hold out for five days on that mountain while he’d seen people walking by, trying to holler at them.” He was seriously hurt in the crash. People didn’t answer Demoss’s yells until Common saw him while looking five days after the August 11 crash.

Common said, “It was crazy that we found him.” I looked up and saw him lying by the river. It was like something was telling me to.

Demoss and two other people rode his 2000 Kawasaki Vulcan motorbike along Highway 12. The other drivers stopped at the next pullout a few miles down the road to wait for him when they saw his motorcycle parked on the side of the highway.

Friends of Demoss went back to the entrance where they had last seen his bike to see if he had arrived. He had not. Neither Demoss nor his bike were there.
