A Mother and Grandmother Are Said to Have Blamed Paranormal Activity for the Serious Child Abuse and Fentanyl Exposure of Their Kids.

According to police, two women in North Carolina told them that evil ghosts or some other supernatural force caused serious injuries and trauma to two children. They are now in jail.

Catawba County Jail records show that Emily Marie Edwards, 25, and her mother, Sherrie Jean Edwards, 54, are each charged with two counts of felony child abuse causing major bodily injury.

The two were nabbed last week by the Newton Police Department after being charged with crimes that happened in December 2023.

“The main response was nightmares,” Newton Police Chief Vidal Sipe told WSOC, an ABC affiliate in Charlotte. “When they went over to where the kids were yelling, they saw that they were hurt.” They say that the injuries were caused by ghosts that were in the house at the time.

Police say in the indictments that the women showed a “reckless disregard for life” and hurt the two young children “seriously.” The TV station received copies of these documents.

Police say that the 1- and 2-year-olds got burned, were bitten, and had bones broken. In addition, the indictments say that each kid tested positive for fentanyl.

The kids got hurt at an apartment on West C Street in Newton, a small town about 40 miles northwest of Charlotte.

Police say a third adult, who they have only named as a guy, was also abusing the children. He passed away last year, though.

The two people who were killed are the mother and grandma of the women in question. Police asked them what they thought happened and they said it was evil spirits. They also said they used a Ouija board, a famous kids’ toy that pretends to help with automatic writing, to call on the spirits.

Police, on the other hand, say that the two demon-possessed suspects are responsible for the toddlers’ serious injuries. Police say that both kids had cuts and bruises on their bodies that they didn’t tell anyone about.

A neighbor who talked to WSOC said that the two Edwards women’s claim that their flat was haunted was not true.

She said, “That seems crazy to me.” „I don’t think there’s any supernatural going on here.

The mother and grandma are both being held on a $250,000 bond.

The younger suspect went to court over the weekend and does not have another hearing planned at this time. The older suspect is set to go to court again on Oct. 7.

Law&Crime asked the Newton Police Department for more information about this story, but at the time of publishing, they had not responded.
