A Rollover Van Crash in Texas Killed Four Persons and Injured Ten More

The Texas Department of Public Safety said that a major rollover accident on U.S. Highway 287 in Wise County, Texas, Wednesday morning killed four people and hurt ten more.

At about 8 a.m., police were called to a crash involving only one car near the Farm-to-Market Road 1655 exit on northbound 287 in Alvord.

“Preliminary investigations show that the vehicle left the roadway, the driver overcorrected and lost control, which caused the vehicle to roll over multiple times,” Tony De La Cerda, a spokesman for the Texas DPS, said.

After the crash, 13 of the 14 people who were in the passenger van were thrown out. People driving by were traumatized, and Paige Caffrey got upset when she thought about what she saw on her way to work at Allsup’s.

“I saw a bunch of police cars, an ambulance, and a fire truck.” “There was a helicopter that touched down,” Caffrey said. “Then I saw the car crash.” It was pretty bad. “I saw a dead body.”

Wise County EMS said that the “mass casualty incident” was attended by several ambulances, medical helicopters, and the police and fire departments of Alvord.

The driver was one of the three people who were declared dead at the scene by the Texas DPS. After that, another traveler died at the hospital. Three people in serious condition were taken to nearby hospitals by air ambulance, and eight others were taken by ground ambulance. The dead have not been named yet.

“There were multiple ejections and 13 of the 14 people who were there were hurt in some way. Of course, three of them died,” De La Cerda said. “Seeing all these people on the road and in the grass is very hard because we have to stay calm and treat each person as best we can until EMS arrives.”

De La Cerda said that out of the 14 people in the van, only one was wearing a seat belt. That person got away from the crash and was checked out at a nearby hospital as a safety measure.

“Belts for cars save lives.” Every day, every vacation, and every weekend, we stress that. Putting on your seat belt will save your life. “In this case, only one person was wearing a seat belt, and that person was able to get away and was taken to the hospital for safety reasons,” De La Cerda said.

Reports say that no one else was hurt and that no other cars were involved in the crash.

The van was coming from Florida, according to the Texas DPS. However, they do not yet know where it was going or who owned it.

The road was stopped Wednesday for a few hours while the accident was looked into. The lanes going north were opened to traffic again sometime Wednesday afternoon.
