According to officials, an Arizona convict serving a sentence for sexual activity with a minor was pronounced dead after a struggle with another inmate.

Michael Dunbar, 43, died Monday as a result of the altercation, according to the Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation, and Reentry (ADCRR).

Dunbar was detained at the Arizona State Prison Complex- Eyman. He’d been in detention since 1998.

He was imprisoned after being sentenced outside of Maricopa County for sexual conduct involving a juvenile and indecent exposure.

Dunbar’s sentence was scheduled to conclude on June 15, 2038.

“The ADCRR does not tolerate violence and will seek prosecution pending investigation results,” the ADCRR stated in a statement.

The ADCRR stated that all inmate deaths are investigated in collaboration with the county medical examiner’s office. The ADCRR’s Office of the Inspector General has launched an initial criminal investigation into Dunbar’s death.

Dunbar has had multiple disciplinary offenses, including assault against other offenders, beginning in 2010.
