Arrest Made After 10th Grade Student Struck and Trapped on Car in Avon Incident

AVON, Connecticut — Police have arrested after a 10th grader was hit while riding their bike in Avon on Friday.

According to police, the adolescent was hit by a red Subaru Forester around 9 p.m. on Arch Road. The kid was then stranded on the car’s roof and carried for over four miles until the driver came to a halt and pushed them from the roof into Harris Road before continuing to drive.

Good Samaritans discovered the injured child on the side of the road after noticing the Subaru on Harris Road.

The injured child was identified as a 10th-grade student at Avon High School. Alex Joel Rivera, the driver, was detained and faces four charges, including reckless endangerment, driving without a license, and putting a kid in danger.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday. The juvenile is in critical condition.
