A former convict turned advocate for criminal justice reform, was arrested on serious charges, including murder, after police discovered a human torso in a Bronx apartment during a welfare check.
The disturbing find occurred on Tuesday evening at a Summit Avenue apartment. Upon arriving, officers found an unidentified human torso, later identified as Collin Small, 44, in Small’s apartment.
The suspect, Sheldon Johnson, 48, was arrested on Thursday and charged with murder, manslaughter, weapon possession, concealment of a human corpse, and criminal contempt. Johnson, previously incarcerated for attempted murder as a high-ranking Bloods gang member, had worked for the Queens Defenders office after his release.
In February, Johnson appeared on “The Joe Rogan Experience” podcast, discussing his journey to reform after prison.
Police received reports of gunshots from Small’s apartment, and a neighbour saw a man repeatedly entering and leaving the building with cleaning supplies. Surveillance video confirmed it was Johnson, who, upon investigation, had the victim’s head, arms, and legs in his freezer.
