East Tennessee Representative Tim Burchett engaged in a friendly conversation with President Biden before the State of the Union address, providing a bipartisan moment.
During their brief chat, the two delved into topics like Corvettes and chocolate chip ice cream. Amusingly, when Burchett mentioned his wife Kelly’s fondness for these things, Biden jokingly requested her number.
The encounter lasted about 30 seconds, with Biden shaking hands with various representatives before the speech. Burchett, known for his humour, later revealed in an interview that he attempted to prolong the interaction on a dare from Rep. Matt Gaetz.
Burchett succeeded in doubling the duration of their conversation from the prior year, which it lasted approximately 10 seconds.
Despite the friendly pre-speech banter, Burchett later took to social media to criticize the president and his State of the Union speech. In his assessment, he likened the address to a tyre fire, expressing the sentiment that it seemed like it was never going to be extinguished.
