In a repeat of history, Governor Gavin Newsom of California finds himself on the recall chopping block for the second time, courtesy of Rescue California.
The conservative activist group alleges that Newsom’s pursuit of presidential ambitions has left the state in a financial quagmire, with a hefty $73 billion budget deficit and pressing issues in public safety, immigration, and education.
With over 400 Californians supporting the recall, Newsom has a ten-day window to counter the effort formally. Should proponents manage to gather signatures equivalent to 12% of Newsom’s last vote (roughly 1.4 million) by May, the stage could be set for a recall election come November.
Newsom dismisses the attempt, attributing it to “Trump Republicans” trying to distract from broader political issues. Meanwhile, Rescue California stands resolute, promising a challenge that surpasses the previous recall effort.
