A father in Ocean Beach is deeply concerned after a terrifying incident involving his eight-year-old son. Surveillance footage captured the moment when a stranger attempted to kidnap the child on Newport Avenue.
According to the father, Adrian Villanueva, the family was enjoying dinner outside their newly opened deli when the incident occurred. The boy was playing on the sidewalk when a man approached from behind, grabbed him and tried to pull him across the street.
In the video, Villanueva can be seen rushing to his son’s aid, confronting the stranger, and attempting to free his son from the man’s grasp. Bystanders quickly intervened to help restrain the suspect until the police arrived.
Initially, Villanueva felt sympathy for the suspect, believing he may have been distressed about his own child. However, witnessing the trauma inflicted on his son has changed his perspective.
The child, deeply shaken by the ordeal, expressed fear of returning to Newport Avenue, fearing “bad people on the streets.” Villanueva, who is a partner at the newly opened deli, emphasized the importance of ensuring safety for customers and residents of Ocean Beach.

The suspect, identified as Christopher Higginbotham, has a history of felony convictions and was previously wanted by authorities. Villanueva is determined to press charges against him to ensure the safety of his community.
As the investigation continues, Villanueva urges anyone with information to come forward and assist the police in apprehending the suspect. The priority is to create a secure environment where families and residents can feel safe in their neighbourhood.
