Derek Kneeland, known as the spotter for NASCAR stars like Kyle Busch and Austin Hill, is stepping back into the driver’s seat for the St. Patrick’s Day 150 race at Hickory Motor Speedway. This move is a return to Kneeland’s racing roots after years of spotting for top-tier drivers.
Despite facing some setbacks in his teenage years, Kneeland never gave up on his dream of racing in NASCAR. Now, thanks to an opportunity with Mike Bryant Racing, Kneeland will be behind the wheel of the No. 90 super late model for the Easter Bunny 150 race weekend.
Kneeland expressed his gratitude for the chance to race, especially since his own car wasn’t going to be ready in time for the event. The opportunity to drive for Bryant came unexpectedly but was enthusiastically accepted by Kneeland.
Having previously raced at Hickory Motor Speedway during the 2021 Easter Bunny 150 weekend, Kneeland is familiar with the track’s challenges and history.
He looks forward to improving upon his past performances and is excited about the side-by-side racing and tyre falloff that Hickory Speedway is known for.
This year marks a significant increase in Kneeland’s racing schedule, with plans to participate in eight to ten races between Mike Bryant Racing and Derek Kneeland Racing. Despite the busy schedule, Kneeland is thrilled to pursue his passion for racing and is eager to hit the track.
