Race Day Live (San Francisco, CA) – A multi-vehicle crash on Sunday evening in the SoMa neighborhood resulted in several injuries, according to the San Francisco Fire Department (SFFD). Authorities in San Francisco were alerted at approximately 6:08 p.m. regarding an accident occurring on 6th Street, situated between Bryant and Harrison.
According to SFFD, eight individuals were affected in total. Tragically, one individual lost their life, while two others were transported to the hospital with serious injuries that posed a significant risk to their health. Officials reported that a dog tragically lost its life at the location as well.
A total of seven vehicles were caught up in the collision. Both individuals suffering from severe injuries are presently receiving care at SF General Hospital.
Video captured on the Citizen App reveals that one of the seven vehicles involved in the incident was a Waymo, an autonomous taxi. The self-driving car company acknowledged that one of its vehicles was part of the incident, stating that the Waymo was struck from behind.
A representative from Waymo stated that the self-driving car was hit from behind by a fast-moving vehicle traveling at approximately 98 miles per hour. A Waymo vehicle, with no passengers inside, was halted at a red traffic signal.

The San Francisco Police Department reported that a potential suspect driver is in custody and receiving medical treatment at the hospital. Prior to the accident, several hit-and-run incidents occurred on the northbound I-280. Authorities are looking into whether this is connected to the incident on Harrison Street.
