A man from Wyoming faces allegations of colliding with another vehicle in a road-rage episode in Fort Collins. He reportedly fled from law enforcement at speeds exceeding 100 mph, crashed into a patrol car, and ultimately ended up in a farm field northeast of Wellington late Friday.
A 52-year-old man from Cheyenne has been taken into custody by Fort Collins police, facing six charges of attempted second-degree assault, along with one charge each of DUI, vehicular eluding, and second-degree criminal trespass on agricultural land, all classified as felonies. He is also confronted with two misdemeanor charges, including criminal mischief and harassment in a public setting.
Late Friday night, a resident contacted the Fort Collins police dispatch, expressing concern about being pursued by a dark Ford F-150 bearing Wyoming license plates. The individual conveyed their fears that it might be related to a potential road-rage situation, as stated in a release from the Fort Collins police.
Officials instructed them to head in the direction of Fort Collins Police Services, where law enforcement would be waiting for them. Prior to reaching the police department, the truck collided with the other vehicle from behind and continued to pursue them, according to the statement.
Authorities swiftly found both vehicles on Ziegler Road close to South Timberline Road and made an effort to stop the truck. The truck driver took off heading north on Timberline Road.
Shortly after, deputies from the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office observed the same truck traveling north on Interstate 25 and made an effort to pull it over, as stated in the release.
A driver failed to halt, speeding east on County Road 64 at over 100 mph and, at one moment, colliding with a deputy’s patrol vehicle, according to the report.
In the course of the chase, close to the junction of County Road 102 and County Road 19, the truck collided with an agricultural field, according to the statement.
The driver was transported to a local hospital for assessment of any injuries sustained.
After being discharged from the hospital, the man was taken into custody by Fort Collins police and subsequently booked into the Larimer County Jail facing 11 charges.
