The fatal accident occurred around 4 p.m. when a Chevrolet SUV traveling south on Purdie-Hall Road failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with an eastbound semi-truck on N.C. Highway 20. The collision was described as severe, with all five occupants of the SUV pronounced dead at the scene.
The victims were identified as 36-year-old Maribel Hernandez and four minors aged 15, 14, 9, and 6. The driver of the semi-truck was unharmed in the incident.
Authorities have determined that the driver of the SUV was at fault for the crash, and no charges will be filed against the semi-truck driver. “This is a deeply tragic incident, and our thoughts are with the families involved,” a Highway Patrol spokesperson said.
