Forecasters Warn of Gusty Winds and Potential Snow in Maryland and Virginia

Forecasters warn that some wild weather may move through the DMV region over the weekend, as the area prepares for possible snow storms in some areas.

The National Weather Service issued a “Special Weather Statement” saying that wind gusts of up to 50 mph might be on their way on Wednesday night, bringing a powerful cold front and possibly a taste of winter weather in the highlands.

The worst weather is forecast between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. on November 20.

“The strong winds will be capable of blowing around unsecured objects and isolated instances of wind damage are possible as well,” forecasters at AccuWeather indicated. “Winds will gradually diminish overnight.”

A Winter Storm Warning was also issued along and west of the Alleghenies for significant snow from Thursday until Saturday morning, with some locations receiving more than a foot of snow.

“The front will deliver increased rain chances (and) gusty winds later this evening into tonight,” according to the National Weather Service. “Upper-level low pressure will follow Thursday (through) Saturday, bringing a lengthy period of cold temperatures, mountain snow, and windy conditions.
