Gunman opened fire near Tennessee State University in Nashville

On Saturday evening, a suspect opened fire at Tennessee State University (TSU) in Nashville, killing at least one person and injuring multiple others.

The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD) reported the shooting on social media Saturday. During a news conference, authorities stated that at least one person was murdered and nine others were injured.

“Multiple victims were injured as a result of a shooting on Jefferson Street and 27th Avenue North,” police stated on Facebook. “The scene is secure and victims are at area hospitals.”

WZTV reports that the gunshot occurred shortly before the start of a homecoming football game. TSU played Eastern Illinois University at Nissan Stadium.

According to WZTV, the man who was killed was 24 years old, while three of the injured were children.

Authorities are now investigating the scene.
