In the coastal town of Encinitas, California, tragedy struck over the weekend when a bicyclist was discovered deceased along a roadway. The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department has now identified the individual as Ryan Currie, a 48-year-old resident, according to information provided by Sgt. Jeremy Collis.
The incident unfolded around midnight on Sunday, prompting law enforcement to respond to reports of a bicyclist down in the 2700 block of S. Coast Highway 101. Upon arrival at the scene, deputies encountered Currie lying in the northbound bike lane of S. Coast Highway 101.
Despite the efforts of first responders, Currie was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
As the investigation unfolds, authorities are working to ascertain the cause of the accident. Initial findings suggest that Currie was travelling northbound along the east side of S. Coast Highway, utilizing the protected bicycle lane and riding an Electra Townie bicycle at the time of the incident.
