Race Day Live (Lombard, IL) – A man from Illinois just found a priceless relic in his childhood home, hidden behind a wall.
According to Tim King, owner of T.King Construction Services in Lombard, who spoke with PEOPLE, he discovered a Christmas present with his name from many years ago while assisting his parents with a home improvement project. The item had been stashed away behind a bathroom wall.
“We took out a medicine cabinet before we drywalled and I thought, ‘I’d better just look in there to make sure nothing’s back there,’ ” King, 53, tells PEOPLE. “And then there it was!”
More than 35,000 people have liked the Instagram video that King uploaded on December 27th, in which he discussed the event, as of January 4th.
A well-wrapped, dust-covered gift was revealed when he led viewers to a location behind a bathroom wall in the video. Using the hashtag “#Christmasmiracle,” he uploaded the photo.
The gift was a box of long-since-defunct Matchbox model airplanes, which King opens in a subsequent video.
“My mom wasn’t awake yet, so we waited to open it in front of her,” he says, noting that his mother has no recollection of ever buying the gift so many years ago.
King claims that his parents often stashed presents in the attic, and that one of those boxes probably slipped into a crawl space unnoticed.
According to his calculations, the item was probably first released in 1978, when he would have been around six years old.
How does King feel about the revelation that came so late?
“So I have one sister, and my mom has always been very picky about getting us the exact same amount of gifts,” he says, adding with a laugh, “So we’ve been joking that I’ve been screwed out of one present for 46 years.”
