Race Day Live LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Jocelyn Benson has made it official that she is running for Governor of Michigan in 2026.
The current Secretary of State announced her decision early Wednesday morning, saying she will seek the Democratic nomination for the role of Governor.
She is joining a growing list of candidates, including Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan, who is running as an Independent, and Michigan Senate Minority Leader Aric Nesbitt, who will compete as a Republican.
In her announcement video, Benson emphasized the need for fairness, stating that everyone deserves a fair chance in life. She highlighted her experience as Secretary of State, where she worked to ensure every citizen’s voice was heard and protected.

Benson’s campaign made an early online appearance by posting a message on social media platform X, but quickly removed it.
In response, Nesbitt mocked her campaign launch, commenting that it seemed like Benson was unsure about her run.
Despite the brief online post confusion, Benson has already received support from several prominent figures, including Grand Rapids Mayor David LaGrand, who has endorsed her bid for Governor.
This race for Michigan’s top position is heating up, with more candidates expected to announce in the coming months.
With her announcement, Benson sets her sights on leading the state after the current governor, Gretchen Whitmer, who is completing her second term.
