Lexington, KY – A “potentially significant winter storm” is expected to reach Kentucky on Sunday, according to the weather service.

According to a Wednesday afternoon National Weather Service report, a “potentially significant winter storm” is likely in the Louisville area on Sunday and Monday, with snow, sleet, and freezing rain.

Snow is forecast to start Sunday morning and change into a “wintry mix” throughout the day.

“There is a threat of significant icing over the northern half of Kentucky, mainly along and north of the Western Kentucky and Bluegrass Parkways,” according to the weather service.

Friday

Cloudy skies clear to reveal sunshine, a high around 35, and northwest winds of 7 to 11 mph, with gusts up to 21 mph. Friday night is largely clear, with a low of about 19.

Saturday

Sunny with a high around 32 degrees. Chances of snow are 20% after 1 p.m., with partly cloudy sky and a low of 22.

Sunday

Snow is expected before 1 p.m., followed by a combination of freezing rain. Precipitation chances are about 80%. The high is at 31, while the low is around 26. On Sunday night, the chances of precipitation climb to 90%.

Monday

There is a 60% probability of precipitation, including snow. The skies will be mainly cloudy, with a high near 32 and a low around 19. The chance of precipitation drops to 30% Monday night.
