Cheesecake, a Labrador mix, faced a serious threat to her eyesight due to a disease called entropion, which causes the eyelids to turn inward. But thanks to a Rachael Ray Save Them All Grant, her vision was restored.
Living in Oceanside, California, Cheesecake’s future looked uncertain. At nine years old and with a large size, finding her a home was challenging, especially with her eye condition. However, with the help of the animal welfare community, Cheesecake was given a second chance.
California Labradors, Retrievers, and More (known as Labs and More) have been rescuing homeless dogs in the Oceanside and San Diego areas since 2011. They focus on dogs with medical issues, seniors, and large breeds, aiming to save those at risk of euthanasia in shelters.
With support from the Rachael Ray Save Them All Grant, Labs and More can provide medical treatment to dogs like Cheesecake. They collaborate with veterinarians to ensure the dogs receive necessary care and find loving homes once they recover.
Despite their success, Labs and More faces challenges, including increasing numbers of pets entering shelters due to financial difficulties and housing restrictions. However, they remain committed to their mission of saving lives.
