New details have emerged about a man accused of transporting a dog in an open trailer in northwest Indiana during frigid conditions.
Prosecutors say Erik McClinton admitted to putting the dog, named Midnight, in the trailer. However, he claimed that he had covered the dog’s cage with a blanket, which later blew off while driving.
Owner Says Puppies Were Inside the Truck
McClinton explained that he placed Midnight outside in the trailer because the truck’s cabin already had puppies inside. He did not provide further details about the situation.
Authorities did not accept this as a valid excuse, and now, McClinton is facing a misdemeanor charge of animal cruelty.

The Dog Is Now Safe in Foster Care
The good news is that Midnight is now safe and being cared for in a foster home. Animal control officials ensured that the dog was removed from the dangerous situation and placed in a secure environment.
McClinton’s case is ongoing, and he will have to answer for his actions in court. Authorities are urging people to report any incidents of animal neglect or cruelty, especially in extreme weather conditions.
