Summerville, South Carolina — A man was detained after deputies say he brought a knife onto school grounds earlier this month, according to Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Lt. Rick Carson.

Dwight Decker, 46, of Summerville, was arrested after bringing a knife to a high school football game on September 6 at Ashley Ridge High School, according to an incident report.

Decker was detained on September 10, Carson said. Deputies were called to the front gate and found Decker irate and noisy, according to the incident report.

Deputies then brought Decker to the front of one of their patrol vehicles. According to the report, Decker told the officers that he was allowed to carry guns on his person because he had previously worked as a police officer.

He also attempted to provide retired military DOD credentials, saying these permitted him to carry weapons on school grounds, according to a deputy’s supplementary incident report.

Decker received a trespass warning and departed the property without incident the night of the game, according to the report.
