Man Sets 20-Year-Old Milwaukee Woman on Fire After She Reportedly Informed Wife Of Affair

Kania Brunson had an infectious smile. The beautiful young woman dreamed of becoming an orthodontist or veterinarian and enjoyed cosmetology. Kania Brunson also had a secret.

According to the Milwaukee Prosecutor’s Office, 20-year-old Kania was in a relationship with Sultan Shareef, a married man, since she was a teen. Kania and 54-year-old Sultan Sultan dated for years, and Kania fell in love.

According to Kania’s mother, Jennifer Meadows, one day in mid-September 2022, Sultan told her, “I want to be done messing with your daughter, but she’s reaching out to my wife.”

When Kania reached out to his wife in hopes that she would leave him, he decided to kill her.

According to prosecutors, on September 24, 2022, Sultan called his longtime friend, Carvester Carver, for help. When Harvester arrived at an auto shop, Sultan had Kania in the back seat of her car, stabbing her with a screwdriver.

Although her neck was slit, she was able to beg for help and screamed, “He cut my throat.” When Carvester attempted to intervene, Sultan pulled a gun and drove away with Kania.

Carvester called 911. When the police arrived, the pair was gone, but Carvester gave them a full description of the car and a partial plate.

The same day, 39-year-old Justin Fields was in his Milwaukee kitchen near Keefe Avenue and Palmer Street when he saw flames and fire in the alley.

“At first, I thought it was trash burning,” Justin said, AOL reports.

Then, he saw arms and legs.

The badly burned body was determined to be Kania Brunson. Her body was riddled with gunshot wounds, and she had been left in an alley and set on fire.

Investigators questioned Sultan’s wife, who told authorities that he was with her at the time of the murder, but video evidence proved she was lying.

Authorities arrested Sultan Shareef and his brother-in-law, Johnny Hopgood.

“I saw you stabbing that girl with a Phillips-head screwdriver,” Carvester said from the witness stand in court. “You did that.”

Johnny made a plea deal with prosecutors and was sentenced to time served and 10 years of probation. Sultan Shareef received life in prison plus 12 years.
