DENNIS, Massachusetts – A Massachusetts police officer lost his wife and one-year-old daughter in a fire at their holiday rental house in Clinton, New York, over the weekend.
According to the New York State Police, crews were dispatched to a fire on Clinton Hollow Road in Clinton at 10:40 p.m. Sunday. When troopers arrived, they discovered the 911 caller outside the home, who said that two children and their mother were inside on the second level.
State police said they were unable to enter the home until mutual aid from the Pleasant Valley Fire Department arrived. Shannon K. Hubbard, 35, and her one-year-old daughter Margaret “Maggie” Hubbard were brought to hospitals but died as a result of their injuries.
Dennis Police Patrolman John Hubbard, 39, and his three-year-old son Jack were transported to Westchester Medical Center and are expected to recover.
Dennis Police Chief John Brady stated that Patrolman John Hubbard’s wife, Shannon, and daughter Maggie died after a fire broke out in their holiday rental property on Sunday night.
In a statement to the public, Chief Brady said, “The men and women of the Dennis Police Department are mourning this heartbreaking news.” Patrolman Hubbard is a valuable member of our department and community, as well as a close friend. We send our heartfelt condolences to him and his family. We pledge our entire support to Patrolman Hubbard and are committed to giving any aid he requires as his family and loved ones deal with this terrible loss. We also know that the Dennis community is loving and sensitive and that they will provide support. On behalf of the family, we ask that everyone respect their privacy while they grieve.”
The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, as well as firefighters from Millbrook, Stanford, West Clinton, Roosevelt, and Rhinebeck, aided. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
