Race Day Live Bitter cold weather is gripping the region, with temperatures just above zero, according to National Weather Service Meteorologist Jeff Hood.
In a Monday morning update, he mentioned that occasional wind gusts are making it feel even colder. Wind chill values are dropping below zero at times, making conditions more dangerous.
This extreme cold will continue for a couple of days. Hood explained that temperatures might not rise above freezing until Wednesday.
Today’s highs are expected to reach the mid-20s, but temperatures will drop back to single digits overnight. Northerly winds may push wind chill values below zero again, Hood warned.
Adding to this, a weak weather front is passing through, bringing more clouds. “Kansas and Oklahoma might see some light snow with this front,” Hood said.

There is some good news, though. Temperatures are expected to rise by Wednesday, providing some relief. Until then, residents are encouraged to prepare for the cold and stay safe.
