Mom Sneaked Out with Baby When the father of the baby went to the bathroom. Then she choked him to death.

A Boulder County news statement says that a mother in Colorado has admitted to second-degree murder in the death of her 2-month-old son in 2023.

Anna Englund, who is 31 years old, took her plea deal on August 7 and was given a 40-year prison term right away. Englund killed his son Miles Basellio by strangling him to death. As part of the plea deal, he was not charged with first-degree murder.
DA Michael Dougherty said in the news release, “This guilty plea and long sentence is the right outcome in this very sad case.” “It breaks my heart to think about how much this terrible murder hurt the baby’s father, his family, and all the police officers who desperately tried to stop it.”

An NBC News report from June 10, 2023, at 4:30 p.m. said that police were called to check on a woman who might be having a mental health problem.

This made Miles’ dad worry about Englund’s mental health and how he was acting around the baby. Englund took the child outside with him when he went to the bathroom, drove to a place, and then strangled the child, according to the report.

According to an affidavit received by The Denver Post, she finally admitted to killing the child “because I didn’t want him to suffer in life like I have.”

That’s what she told the police: “She was worried about all the things that could happen” to Miles “because the world was “crazy.”

When police learned that the mother and child were missing, they sent an “attempt to locate” alert for Englund to other police departments in the area. After that, Englund drove around with the baby for several hours while police kept looking for them.

Englund was finally found at a hospital with the dead child, about six hours after the call for help for the child. The affidavit says Englund later admitted to the crime and told cops she had been looking for a place to kill herself.

According to court papers seen by 9 NBC News, Englund had been to the hospital twice before the incident in June 2023 because he was thinking about committing suicide. Along with that, Miles’ dad also told the news source that Englund was at Boulder Community Health, the hospital where the two were found and that she was released after a few days for both trips.

She was given medicine while she was in the hospital, but she only took it once, and it made her feel more depressed. The statement told The Denver Post that she refused to take it again.

Even though Englund and Miles’ father knew about her mental health, a judge last November found her fit to stand trial. She did, however, choose to plead guilty.

Someone had already set up a GoFundMe page to get money for Miles’ funeral.
