NASCAR Issues Penalties Following Richmond Raceway Event (March 2024)

After the recent NASCAR event at Richmond Raceway, several penalties have been handed out, highlighting both on-track incidents and technical infractions.

One of the most notable incidents occurred during the Xfinity Series race involving Joey Gase, who was fined for throwing his bumper at Dawson Cram.

The incident unfolded when Gase’s car was spun out by Cram, resulting in significant damage. In a moment of frustration, Gase removed his own rear bumper and threw it at Cram’s car while the race was under caution.

This dramatic action captured attention and sparked controversy within the NASCAR community.

Despite Gase’s explanation that actions can occur in the heat of competition, NASCAR decided to penalize him for his actions. Gase received a $5,000 fine for violating safety regulations, as his actions could have potentially created an unsafe situation on the track.

In addition to Gase’s penalty, three other teams were fined $5,000 each for technical infractions related to improperly installed lug nuts on their cars. AJ Allmendinger’s crew chief, Alex Yontz, Taylor Gray’s crew chief, Seth Chavka, and Corey Heim’s crew chief, Kristoffer Bowen, were all penalized for this oversight.
