A Forsyth County couple has been accused of stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from an elderly grandmother.
The investigation started on August 8.
Forsyth County officials claimed the Georgia Department of Human Services Adult Protective Service received a referral alleging that monies were missing from an 89-year-old victim’s bank account.
The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office has launched an investigation into the missing cash.
Following the inquiry, officials discovered that the 89-year-old victim’s purported great-niece stole more than $100,000 from her account in less than a year.
The suspects were identified as Margo and Matthew Clark, the victim’s niece and husband.
According to the sheriff’s office, the two had power of attorney at the time and were spending money on almost everything except the victim’s care.
The two are charged with exploitation of the elderly, money laundering, identity fraud, and seven counts of theft by taking.
Margo and Matthew Clark have both been booked into the Forsyth County Jail.
“The moral of the narrative is to not injure people who are unable to protect themselves. If so, we’re coming. That we can guarantee,” the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office stated.
