A Nova Scotia schoolteacher accused of severe sex offenses earlier this summer has been released from jail after being detained over the weekend.
Nicole MacLeod, 36, appeared in Truro provincial court on Wednesday morning to face several sex-related charges, as well as a new allegation of violating her previous release conditions.
In June, a lady from Murray Siding, Nova Scotia, was charged with several offenses, including sexual assault, sexual interference, invitation to sexual touching, and providing sexually explicit information to a minor.
MacLeod is accused of sexually assaulting a pupil several times during May and June. She was released with conditions, including an order to stay away from the claimed victim. The latest accusation, filed after her arrest on Saturday, says that she contacted the youth.
MacLeod is a teacher at Tatamagouche Regional Academy, a mixed elementary, junior, and senior high school, however, she has been suspended since the charges were made.
During Wednesday’s court session, lawyers reached an agreement on new terms for her release. MacLeod must now live with a guarantor in Debert, Nova Scotia, where she will be placed under house arrest and can only leave the house with her guarantee. She is not to have any contact with anyone under the age of 16, including the claimed victim. The only exceptions are her children.
MacLeod will return to court in October.
