A recent crime report by Simmrin Law Group highlights San Joaquin County as having the highest rate of violent crime in California, based on data from 2013 to 2022. The analysis used information from the California Department of Justice.

The report reveals that, during this period, San Joaquin County had an average of 72 violent crimes per 1,000 residents, nearly double the state average of 44 incidents per 1,000 people. The total violent crimes recorded in the county over the ten years amounted to 56,177, including 617 homicides, 2,379 rapes, 14,592 robberies, and 38,589 aggravated assaults.

CBS13 reached out to the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office for comment on the analysis’s accuracy, with a response still pending.

This revelation comes at a time when Stockton, the county seat facing significant crime challenges, is experiencing leadership turnover. Several contested city council seats and the mayoral race are underway, with safety becoming a focal point in the campaigns.

The leading candidate for Stockton mayor, Tom Patti, emphasized that the report does not reflect recent improvements.
