Housing Authority tenants in New York City without access to hot water or heating
The department’s website lists over 3,000 individuals who were without heat and/or hot water on Friday morning in NYCHA housing units.
Unanticipated service disruptions affected around 2,734 people in 30 units by 1 p.m. Cold weather and high winds have caused power outages in New York City.
Staten Island’s Stapleton complex and Queens’ South Jamaica I and II complexes were the most heavily hit by the outages. Hot water was also reported as unavailable to residents of the Bronx’s Mill Brook community.
By 1:30 p.m., service had been restored to the South Jamaica complexes, but the other outages are still being addressed by NYCHA staff.
On Friday, New York City might see temperatures as high as 33 degrees. Some regions might see wind gusts as high as 46 mph. Overnight lows of 28 degrees are anticipated.
